COS™ stands for Compliance, Oversight, and Sustainability — three governance pillars treated as one integrated system, not three separate functions.

It was developed from 22 years of field experience in infrastructure governance across Nepal, Qatar, and Bahrain, and published open-access on Zenodo under CC BY 4.0.

The core principle: you cannot have genuine Compliance without active Oversight, and you cannot have credible Sustainability without both.

COS™ is designed for infrastructure practitioners — construction managers, project engineers, resident engineers, site supervisors, quality officers, ESG coordinators, and anyone with governance responsibility on infrastructure projects.

It is particularly relevant for practitioners working on donor-funded projects (World Bank, ADB, IFC, GCF) where multiple overlapping standards must be managed simultaneously.

No prior degree or credential is required to enrol. The Entry Point Assessment (EPA) allows experienced practitioners to enter at a higher module.

No. COS™ certification is open to all infrastructure practitioners regardless of educational background.

The pathway is designed for practitioners with field experience. The Capstone assignments explicitly welcome retrospective application — using a project you have already worked on.

If you have significant prior experience, apply for the Entry Point Assessment (EPA) to enter at Module 2, 3, or 4 without completing all previous modules. Email cm.academy.consulting@gmail.com to discuss EPA.

Each module takes approximately 8–16 hours of study including handbook reading, Capstone preparation, and the exam.

There is no fixed timeline — you progress at your own pace. Typical completion:

Module 1: 1–2 weeks self-study
Modules 2–4: 2–3 weeks each
Level 2 (Modules 1–4): 8–12 weeks at a comfortable pace

Capstone submissions are reviewed within 5–7 business days.

Module 4 — Sustainability Integration (6 credit hours, NPR 3,500 / USD 28) covers:

• Sustainability as operational governance — not performative reporting
• SDG alignment — selecting and committing to relevant targets
• The Sustainability Baseline — environmental, social, SDG, and climate sections
• ESG reporting — GRI Standards, TCFD, ESG report structure
• Carbon tracking — Scope 1/2/3, emission factors, reduction measures
• Community impact documentation — Community Impact Assessment, Benefit Plan
• Sustainability lifecycle from baseline to closure
• Level 2 Capstone — Integrated Governance Report (all three pillars)

Each module has a password-protected digital handbook with 11 sections, accessed at cosmethod.org.

After payment is confirmed, you receive an access code by email within 2 hours. Enter it at the handbook login screen.

The handbook is licensed for single-user study. Sharing access codes is prohibited.

Module 1: 30 questions · 45 minutes · 70% to pass (21/30)
Modules 2–4: 35 questions · 50 minutes · 70% to pass (25/35)

All exams are taken online at cosmethod.org/exam. You need your access code to start.

Questions are multiple-choice with four options. Each question includes a detailed explanation shown after the exam — whether you passed or not.

Five free practice questions are available without a code to help you understand the format before attempting.

The exam uses a tiered retake system:

Tier 1: First attempt — available immediately after purchase
Tier 2: First retake — available after 14 days
Tier 3: Second retake — available after 30 days
Tier 4: Third retake — available after 60 days

After each attempt you receive your score and detailed per-question explanations to guide your study before retaking.

If you fail a retake, review the handbook sections corresponding to the questions you missed, then attempt again when the cooling period ends.

The Capstone is a practical assignment — not an essay and not another exam. It asks you to apply the COS™ framework to a real or hypothetical project.

Module 1 Capstone: One-page COS™ Project Initiation Checklist (Compliance Register setup, NCR Register establishment, Sustainability Baseline with two SDG targets)
Module 2 Capstone: Complete Compliance Register with minimum 12 line items across three register sections
Module 3 Capstone: Oversight governance system — inspection schedule, dashboard template, escalation protocol
Level 2 Capstone: Integrated Governance Report — all three pillars applied to one project

COS™ uses a two-tier certificate model:

You have 90 days from exam pass to submit your Capstone. The full Module Certificate is the credential that carries weight for CPD claims and professional recognition.

The Capstone is what distinguishes COS™ from a knowledge test — it verifies that you can apply the framework to real project conditions.

Your access code is a unique alphanumeric code issued after payment. It unlocks:

• The module handbook — enter the code at the handbook login screen
• The exam — enter the code at cosmethod.org/exam to start

Your code is registered to you. Keep it confidential. The handbook is watermarked with your registered name. Do not share your code — sharing invalidates the licence and disqualifies the exam result.

If your access code has not been used, a full refund is available within 7 days of purchase. Email cm.academy.consulting@gmail.com with your payment confirmation and reason.

Once the handbook or exam has been accessed, refunds are not available — the digital content has been delivered.

If you experience a technical issue preventing access, contact us immediately and we will resolve it or issue a replacement code.

The full Module Certificate includes:

• Your full name as registered
• Module name, level, and credit hours
• Exam score and Capstone assessment result
• Completion date
• COS™ Methodology DOI reference (10.5281/zenodo.18802971)

Issued as a PDF within 2 business hours of passing both exam and Capstone.

COS™ certificates are self-reportable as structured assessed learning for CPD purposes.

Credit hours: Module 1 = 4 hours · Modules 2–4 = 6 hours each · Level 2 pathway = 22 hours total

COS™ is self-assessed against UNESCO Micro-credential Guidelines 2023 and ISCED Level 4–6 classification. It is not independently accredited by any university or professional body.

Check with your specific professional body (CMAA, ICE, ASCE, CIOB, Engineers Australia, etc.) on how they classify self-directed online certification for CPD reporting. Most bodies accept structured assessed learning with a verifiable publication reference.

COS™ certificates do not expire. They are dated to the completion date and the DOI reference is permanent.

As the COS™ Methodology is updated (new versions published on Zenodo), holders of earlier module certificates may receive update notifications. Continuing education pathways will be added as the programme develops.
